Procedure to apply for Marriage Certificate in Goa-

A. Hindu Marriage Act

Under Hindu Marriage Act, applicants who get married under the Hindu Customs can register their marriage within one month of actual marriage. For registration, application form and proof of marriage are to be submitted.

Required Documents for Marriage Certificate in Goa –

  • Proof of Nationality
  • Proof of Age
  • Proof of Solemnizing of the Marriage. It can be Wedding Invitation Card or Certificate by Priest.

Fee for Marriage Certificate in Goa Under Hindu Marriage Act-

Fee of Rs. 100/- need to be deposit in Cash.

B. Special Marriage Act-

As per Special Marriage Act, Notice shall be submitted by any of the parties and notice shall accompany a joint affidavit by the parties in prescribed format to the office of the Marriage Officer. After receiving the duly filled application from the parties, the Marriage Officer will issue a notice for claims and objections to the Marriage Officers of home districts of both the bride and groom, returnable within one month.

Marriage Officers of home districts publicize widely for information of all concerned like parents, relatives etc., so that they can file claims and objections. If no claims and objections are received within the stipulated period of one month, the marriage is solemnized and registered in the court of Marriage Officer in presence of 3  witnesses.

If any objection received, Marriage Officer shall not solemnize the marriage until he has inquired into the objection and taken the decision. He is required to complete the inquiry into 30 days of receipt of inquiry. After inquiry, if he is also in favor of objection then he can refuse to solemnize the marriage. Any of the party intended to marriage can  appeal to the District Court.

Fee for Marriage Certificate in Goa Under Special Marriage Act-

Parties will be charged fee of Rs. 45/-. Fee shall be deposited in Treasury Challan. The concerned forms are sold at the Office of the District Magistrate & Collector for Rs.10/-. In case the parties request to solemnize the marriage at their premises and the same is entertained by the Marriage Officer, an advance fee of Rs.145/- is required to be deposited in the form of Treasury Challan.
