How to apply for Marriage Certificate in Delhi-

Solemnized Marriages can be registered in Delhi under Hindu Marriage Act 1955 or Special Marriage Act 1954.
Hindu Marriage Act is applicable if both parties are Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs whereas Special Marriage Act is applicable to all irrespective of any religion.

List of Documents for Marriage Certificate in Delhi-

  • Application Form
  • Ration Card
  • Date of Birth Proof (Matriculation Certificate/ Passport/Birth Certificate)
  • Affidavit by both the parties stating place and date of marriage, date of birth, marital status at the time of marriage and nationality.
  • Two Passport Size Photographs of both parties and one marriage photograph
  • Marriage Invitation Card
  • Certificate of priest, in case marriage is performed at religious place.
  • Attested Copy of the Divorce decree in case of divorcee and death certificate of spouse in case of widow/widower.

All the documents should be attested by Gazetted Officer.

Procedure for Marriage Certificate in Delhi-

A. Hindu Marriage Act-

On the date of submission of applications, verification will be done by the issuing authority.
Both the parties along the witness (Gazetted Officer) who attended the marriage should present before the issuing authority on the date so fixed by authority. Certificate will be issued on the same day.

B. Special Marriage Act-

For issuance of the Public Notice for inviting objections, both the parties need to present before the authority after submission of documents.
One copy of notice is pasted on the notice board of the office and copy of the notice is sent by registered post to both parties as per address given by them.
Registration is done 30 days after the date of notice after deciding any objection that may have been received during that period by the SDM.
Both parties along with three witnesses are required to be present on the date of registration.

Fee details for Mari age Certificate in Delhi-

Under Hindu Marriage Act Rs. 100/- and Rs. 150/- under Special Marriage Act  is to be deposited with the cashier of district and receipt is to be attached with the application Form.
